Powder Fire Extinguishers
Powder fire extinguishers are suitable for A, B and C class fires, as well as electrical fire risks. With a blue label, this extinguisher type can smother fires that involve both organic solids and gases, starving them of the oxygen they need to burn. This ability to cover multiple fire classes makes it a versatile piece of equipment in the defence against fire.
At Fire Safety Equipment, we supply powder fire extinguishers for businesses and properties throughout the UK, as well as a variety of other extinguisher types if you face multiple threats in different areas of your building.Â

What can powder fire extinguishers be used for?
A powder fire extinguisher can be used on a variety of fire types, including class A, class B, class C and electrical fires. This is why it is sometimes referred to as an ABC powder extinguisher, as it covers many types of fire.
What can’t powder fire extinguishers be used for?
The only type of fire a powder extinguisher can’t be used for is one where cooking oils and fats are involved (class F fires), since the jet of powder is likely to splash the hot liquids, creating an additional hazard and risking the spread of fire.
How to use a powder fire extinguisher
To use a powder fire extinguisher, first remove the safety pin and tamper seal. Aim the nozzle at the base of the flames and gently squeeze the handle to release the pressurised powder agent in a jet. Slowly sweep the powder back and forth to smother the area and effectively cut off the oxygen to the fire. Fully empty the extinguisher to ensure the fire is completely out and to cool the affected area.
Powder can be used to put out a number of fire types, which is why it’s such a popular choice for many people.
